Qualcomm Inaugurates New R&D Center in Shanghai

Chipmaker Qualcomm announced on May 23 the inauguration of a new R&D center in Shanghai, as part of its efforts to improve local R&D capabilities in China, according to a press release by Qualcomm. The new center will be dedicated to advancing CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) chipset solutions, with an aim to tap growing demand for 3G mobile phones in China with customized services and time-to-market advantage, according to the same source. Qualcomm stated that the company has earmarked several millions in US dollars for this new center without specifying the actual value of the investment. Aside from its Shanghai R&D center, Qualcomm also has another R&D center specializing in CDMA chipset development in Beijing, along with two branches offices in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
